JUst a quick update where I'm at... We finished a great deal of the moving to Berbuerg so far, the heavy stuff will be done by professionals on Monday. I bought a new PC and set it up for my parents in Berbuerg, and my MacBook still isn't working... of course... I have to bring it to a repair center in Switzerland, because that's where I bought it (sounds stupid to me but that's what they told me after some 10 calls and 2 hours of waiting at the Apple Hotline). It's definetely the HDD, did my research and it sounds as though I'm not the only one (http://www.thingy-ma-jig.co.uk/blog/30-12-2006/mac-book-pro-hard-disk-failure). Well my backup is about 1 month old, still one or two more o less important files are gone, including my daily report from the Seychelles.
About them, I must say it was a marvelous vacation. We had bad luck with the weather, it was mostly covered which makes it not nearly as perfect as we'd imagined. Also, I think, three weeks were enough tropical island paradise for me for the next couple of years. It really was fantastic, but after some time, you atuomatically stop being amazed by the beauty of it, and take it for granted, and I don't really like that kind of feeling. But anyhow, I took more than enough pictures and got them all savely to Europe (thanks to my external HDD and my Epson P2000). It's somewhere around 4000 pics, in RAW format, so you might not wish to hold your breath to see them on my blog... I have to wait for my laptop to be fixed, and to finish moving my stuff to Basel, and get an internet connection etc.
Just now I'm restaurating (is that a word?) an old filing desk that I want to take with me. I have so much stuff that I hope I'll get it all into the (small) truck today in a week. I'll probably drive to Basel with a bunch of it on Wednesday, and see if everything goes smoothly with the Swiss customs... Then there will be a hard weekend consisting of unpacking etc and the following week, I'll start working in the lab.
Just in case you wonder why there are so few updates from my part...
